Jin Qiao Sidewalk (1)

This brightly colored sidewalk is right down the road from where we live in Jin Qiao town (which is in the Pudong (which is the part of Shanghai which is east of the "Huang Pu" (which translates as "Yellow River", but not THE "Yellow River"). These tiles are used all over the area around here (and elsewhere) in all sorts for patterns.

In Most cities the sidewalks have a section with parallel grooves or raised bars that serves as a tactile guide for the blind. In true Chinese style, these pathways are often blocked with parked bicycles or scooters (or hydrants or utility poles).

This sidewalk is in Jin Qiao town. The undulating wave pattern is made from smooth glazed tiles, while the straight orange path is made from tiles with a raised bar pattern.
