LiJiang Sidewalk

LiJiang, in the Naxi Autonimous county of Yunan province in western China, is really two cities: The new town is a smallish modern city, like a lot of other smallish modern cities in China. The Old town is built along a crystal clear stream (really) that has provided water to people in that location for millenia.

The Old town is a wonderful collection of old and new buildings in the old style, and that part of the city has a great feeling of the bustle of ancient life. Even though the "Old Town" is largely taken up with shops refurbished in recent years for the tourist trade, the attitude of the Naxi people, and the beautiful surroundings make for a really enjoyable visit.
