The West Campus quad features a bronze figure of university founder
James B. Duke, industrialist and philanthropist. His final consuming interest
was building Duke University. As he lay dying in 1925, one of his last recorded
statements was "Don't bother me, nurse. Today, I am laying out the university
grounds." |
